Classroom Highlights for February and March
On March 16th, Kindergarten is having a Coffee House Poetry Celebration. It will be held at 8:45 am in the gym. the program will last about 1/2 hour. We will be giving a DVD production of the poetry the kindergarteners wrote for our last writing unit. Each student will recieve a copy of our DVD. It is outstanding! So come join us! We look forward to seeing you!
- This month in Kindergarten our reading themes are: Wheels Go Around and Down on the Farm
- We are working on comprehension strategies for making mental images and summaries for our stories. We will also use the comprhension strategy of Determining Importance to begin our non fiction unit in March
- In Writing Workshop, we working on writing poetry and then we will move to non fictiion
- In Math, we are skip counting by 5's, tally marks estimation, pennies, nickels and dimes, 3 dimensional shapes, surveys and graphs, concept of a half, and measurement
- In Social Studies, we will be discussing the American Symbols of Freedom and President's Day
- In science, we will discuss things in the sky and baby animals
- In handwriting, we have started lower case letters, it will be an expectation that all students begin to use lower case writing in their writing
News and Info
We will exchange Valentine on Friday the 12th, class lists went home in January. Please make sure that everyone in the class gets a Valentine.
We have set a kindergarten goal for tying shoes, please help us achieve this goal by helping your children to independently tie their shoes. Students who demonstrate proficiency will be awarded their own pair of Special Neon Laces and a Certificate of Achievement. Each Friday students will be allowed to demonstrate their shoe tying abilities. Parents are encouraged to come and share their shoe tying expertise in all classes.
Conferences are on March 4th. We will be making arrangements for conference times soon. Please, help us by responding as soon as possible if you need a particular time for your conference. Those who respond first get their preferences. We will try to accomondate all resonable requests.
